Services

Our Services

Our services include custom prosthetic eyes and scleral shell prostheses for the following conditions:

  • Evisceration
  • Enucleation
  • Phthisis Bulbi
  • Congenital Anophthalmia
  • Congenital Microphthalmia

  • We also facilitate and assist with the fabrication of Orbital and Facial Prosthesis

  • The Conventional Prosthesis
The ocular prosthesis is made from an impression of the eye socket. This technique offers more comfort, better eye movement and life-like appearance. The prosthesis is hand-painted to match the companion eye. The prosthesis is made of the finest medical grade acrylic plastic that is molded and polished to create the appearance of living tissue.
  • Scleral Shell Prosthesis
The scleral shell prosthesis is a flush-fitting ocular prosthesis,
which is made from an exact impression to cover a blind, shrunken,
    or disfigured eye.
  • Pediatric Patients
Pediatric patients rarely cooperate during the impression process. Therefore the ocularist collaborates with the patients ophthalmologist in the hospital. There, in the care of an anesthesiologist, the evaluation under anesthesia (EUA) is performed. This ensures a precise impression, because the child is still. When a child is born with microphthalmia (a small eye) it may be necessary for the ocularist to fabricate a series of ocular conformers. Increasing the size of the conformers over a period of time stimulates expansion in the eye socket. These conformers may be necessary prior to the fabrication of the permanent prosthesis. This method produces better symmetry and lessons the stress to the child.
